Reno beats Rainiers 6-5 with big inning
A five-run fifth inning was disastrous for Tacoma pitcher Erasmo Ramirez and the Rainiers in a 6-5 Pacific Coast League loss Monday night.
TACOMA — A five-run fifth inning was disastrous for Tacoma pitcher Erasmo Ramirez and the Rainiers in a 6-5 Pacific Coast League loss Monday night.
Ramirez took a 5-0 lead into the fifth, when Reno scored all its runs with two outs. The Aces had five singles, a walk and a steal of home in the big inning.
In the seventh, Josh Bell's solo homer for Reno snapped the 5-5 tie.
The Rainiers had the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the ninth with two outs before Darren Ford flied out to end it.
Nick Franklin hit a solo homer for Tacoma (55-75). Franklin Gutierrez, on a rehab assignment with the Mariners, went 1 for 4.
AquaSox beaten
EVERETT — Four Eugene pitchers combined on a five-hitter in a 5-1 Northwest League victory over Everett.
The AquaSox (12-15) didn't score until Jamodrick McGruder's sacrifice fly in the ninth.
