TACOMA — Home runs by Carlos Peguero and Nick Franklin weren't enough for the Tacoma Rainiers in a 5-3 Pacific Coast League loss to New Orleans on Wednesday at Cheney Stadium.

Peguero's homer, a two-out, two-run blast in the first inning, was his team-leading 19th. Franklin added a solo shot in the eighth.

But the Rainiers (50-69) managed only two other hits in the final game of the series.

The Zephyrs also used the long ball for all their scoring. Chris Coghlan's three-run homer off Hector Noesi in the third inning put New Orleans ahead 3-2. Luke Montz stretched the lead to 5-2 with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth.

Noesi (0-4) took the loss, allowing three runs and six hits in seven innings.

Boise 8, at Everett 6

Rock Shoulders' grand slam lifted the Hawks to a Northwest League win.

Mike Zunino went 2 for 4 and scored twice for Everett, but grounded into a force out with two runners on in the ninth inning for the final out.
