TACOMA — Erasmo Ramirez and Brian Sweeney combined on a five-hitter as the Tacoma Rainiers beat Oklahoma City 5-1 in the Pacific Coast League Saturday night before 5,602 at Cheney Stadium.

Ramirez (4-2) allowed all five hits and an unearned run. He was coming off a start at Tucson in which he allowed nine hits and seven earned runs in only 3-1/3 innings.

Sweeney got his first save by retiring all nine batters he faced, striking out three.

Consecutive singles by Carlos Peguero, Alex Liddi and Luis Rodriguez started a three-run second inning for the Rainiers (49-66). Liddi also tripled, and Carlos Triunfel was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI single for Tacoma.

First baseman Justin Smoak, demoted recently by the Mariners, went 1 for 3 and is hitting .256 in AAA.
