LOS ANGELES — An attorney for Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt dismissed a $1.2 billion bid for the team as a "publicity stunt," according to documents filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court.
McCourt remains steadfast in his intention not to sell the Dodgers, according to two people familiar with his thinking but not authorized to discuss it publicly.
McCourt received the offer on Aug. 30 from a group headed by Los Angeles Marathon founder Bill Burke and funded in large part by financial institutions owned by the Chinese government.
Ryan Kirkpatrick, an attorney for Frank McCourt, called the offer "unsolicited" and "a publicity stunt" in a Sept. 1 email to an attorney for Jamie McCourt.
Ex-wife Jamie McCourt had asked a divorce court in May to order the immediate sale of the Dodgers. The team filed for bankruptcy protection in June, and she subsequently withdrew her request.
Frank McCourt has not responded publicly to the Burke bid.
• Dodgers OF Andre Ethier, whose 30-game hitting streak this season was the second-longest in franchise history, won't play again this year because of his injured right knee.
• Phillies 2B Chase Utley was held out of the lineup and will have tests to determine if he has a concussion after being hit in the back of the helmet by a pitch Wednesday.
• Houston businessman Jim Crane is becoming impatient at how long it's taking Major League Baseball to approve his purchase of the Houston Astros, and said his $680 million offer expires Nov. 30.
• Valentino Pascucci, in his first at-bat in the majors since the Montreal Expos' final game in 2004, singled as a pinch-hitter for the Mets against Atlanta.
