Carl Everett arrested in Florida | Baseball Notebook

LUTZ, Fla. — Former Mariners outfielder Carl Everett was in a Tampa jail Tuesday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after putting a handgun to his wife's head, according to police records.

Everett, 39, was arrested Monday night at his home in the Tampa suburb of Lutz. He was also charged with tampering with a witness and was being held in the Hillsborough County Jail.

According to the arrest affidavit, Everett and his wife of 18 years, Linda, got into an argument and Everett pressed a silver handgun against her head. The report said the wife attempted to call 911 twice, using different phones, but Everett grabbed and broke both phones.

The arrest report says the couple has three children, but it wasn't immediately known if the children were there during the fight or arrest.

Everett played for eight teams in 14 seasons in the majors. He finished his career with the Mariners in 2006, batting .227 with 11 home runs in 308 at-bats.

Dodgers' McCourt to meet with MLB execs

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers owner Frank McCourt will travel to New York on Wednesday to meet with Major League Baseball executives.

McCourt said in a statement Tuesday he has "practical concerns" about the hiring of former Texas Rangers president J. Thomas Schieffer to run the Dodgers' daily operations. McCourt said he also plans to talk about a pending television deal with Fox, the team's television partner. The current contract with Fox expires in 2013.

MLB seized control of the Dodgers last week, only days after the Los Angeles Times reported McCourt had arranged a $30 million loan from Fox to meet payroll.

McCourt said he is confident a new television deal will provide financial stability for the Dodgers. Terms of the deal were not made public.
