Dustin Ackley homers in first at-bat for Rainiers
The Mariners' prize prospect hit the second pitch he saw for a home run to ignite a five-run second inning by Tacoma in a win over Reno.
RENO, Nev. — Dustin Ackley homered on the second pitch he saw in his Class AAA debut, helping Tacoma beat Reno 11-7 in a Pacific Coast League game Thursday night.
Leading off the second inning, Ackley looked at a strike before launching a home run to right-center field. The 22-year-old second baseman finished 1 for 5 with two runs batted in. He also grounded out three times and struck out.
Ackley, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft behind Stephen Strasburg, was promoted from AA West Tennessee this week.
Greg Halman and David Winfree each went 3 for 5 with a home run for Tacoma (52-39).
