Sergio Santos, White Sox: Santos was the only rookie on a list of six relievers — including Mariano Rivera — who didn't give up a run in their first nine appearances.

Sports Illustrated jinx: After appearing on the SI cover, Mariano Rivera had a sore left side, Jorge Posada strained his left calf and Andy Pettitte was shut down with elbow soreness. Only Derek Jeter was unscathed.

Ex-Mariner of the week

Adrian Beltre, Red Sox: Beltre went his first 24 games in a Boston uniform without a homer, then hit two in three games. The notoriously slow starter had his average up to .343 entering the weekend.
