Piers on the Seattle waterfront are looking a bit more impressive than usual this week for the annual Seafair Fleet Week, which has been celebrating maritime culture and ships since 1950.

The event will allow visitors to tour ships from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy for free through Sunday at Piers 66, 69 and 90.

The Navy brought in three ships from ports in San Diego for the event, including Fleet Week’s longest ship, the U.S. Navy’s USS Essex, an 844-foot-long Wasp-class amphibious assault ship commissioned in 1992.

There will also be two ships from the Royal Canadian Navy, both 181-foot-long coastal-defense vessels.

The U.S. Coast Guard will also open up the CGC Mellon, a high-endurance cutter home-ported in Seattle, for the event.
