Hearings on bus cuts to begin
Public hearings start this week on proposed cuts to King County Metro Transit service.
Metro has published a list showing the bus routes to be reduced or taken away with a 16 percent reduction to operating hours. The cuts, which Metro had said would occur if voters rejected Proposition 1 last month, would be phased in over 2014-15, beginning Sept. 27.
But Metropolitan King County Council members must first vote — and that means they’re still listening.
The council’s hearings will be held in:
• Seattle: Tuesday, at Union Station, 401 S. Jackson Street.
• Bellevue, Thursday, at City Hall, 450 110th Ave. N.E.
• Renton, May 20, at the Renton Pavilion Event Center, 233 Burnett Ave. S.
Each begins with sign-in at 5:30 p.m. and public testimony at 6 p.m. The county didn’t list an end time.
Similar hearings in 2011 drew hundreds of people and stretched deep into the night.
