Highlights of the 2014 Bumbershoot arts lineup include a reading by Tom Robbins of selections from his 11 books, “all of them written in and around Seattle,” according to the author. It is to be the novelist’s last appearance here.
“Thus, my farewell appearance in Seattle,” he is quoted in a news release, “would provide a survey, a summation of sorts, of my life — literary and otherwise — in this damp thigh of the woods.”
In addition, the 74-time “Jeopardy!” champion and author Ken Jennings and former “Simpsons” writer George Meyer will explore “the lighter side of comedy in a safe, well-lit theater with abundant fire exits” as part of the Needle Party! event.
The current writers of “The Simpsons” will have their own “Smrt Talk” panel as well.
The Moth, the New York-based storytelling collective, will also be part of the festival.
As described in the release, “Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater, creating a unique, intimate and often enlightening experience for the audience.”
The Seattle hip-hop duo THEESatisfaction — along with local music personalities Larry Mizell Jr., DJ Riz Rollins and others — will be on hand to talk about the Black Weirdo movement they started.
As in years past, the lineup also includes a host of “Why Now?” talks, with this year’s topics ranging from twerking to Juggalos to cats.
On the theater docket are the Fussy Cloud Puppet Jam, Jennifer Jasper’s Family Affair and Present Your Present with a Present (the Gift of the Future), among others.
For visual-arts offerings, Interstitial Theatre, Finger Power and Black Poem are among the exhibits.
