MOSES LAKE, Wash. —

Grant County sheriff's officers investigating last weekend's fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy near Moses Lake, Wash., have arrested a 17-year-old boy.

Sheriff Tom Jones said the 17-year-old, also of Moses Lake, was arrested Thursday. Sheriff's deputies, Moses Lake police and deputy U.S. marshals were all involved.

Brandon Mende was shot and killed last Sunday in the yard of a home. The sheriff's office says he was also shot twice on Jan. 20 after being chased on Arlington Drive in Moses Lake by an unidentified assailant. He says neither Mende nor witnesses cooperated with detectives after the January shooting.

Jones says investigators don't think either shooting was random.

This time, Jones says he wants to thank everyone who offered tips "and also all the witnesses who stepped up to give us the information we needed to make the arrest."
