Snow could be falling in the Puget Sound area before the week is out.

Thursday’s high is expected to be in the upper 30s followed by an overnight low hovering around 30 degrees and a possibility of snow after midnight, according to Chris Burke of the National Weather Service.

By Friday morning we could see 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Seattle area, 2 inches in Tacoma and 5 inches in areas north and east of Puget Sound, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, in issuing a winter-storm watch, the weather service warned that driving conditions could be hazardous Friday morning. People traveling Friday morning are advised to carry an extra flashlight, food, water and blankets in case of an emergency.

The snow could develop when a moist, warm front spreads over cool, dry air in Western Washington. However, the weather service added, “There is still quite a bit of uncertainty regarding how this event will unfold, particularly with how much snow will fall in which areas.” Warm winds could reduce the chances of snow.

The precipitation is expected to change to rain by Friday afternoon when temperatures are predicted to be in the mid-40s, Burke said.
