SPOKANE - Spokane Mayor David Condon wants more police downtown to control street kids suspected of late-night crimes.
KXLY reports Condon wants the city council to approve an ordinance that will make it easier for police to roust street kids before they get into trouble. Meanwhile police are stepping up undercover patrols where street kids congregate.
Last week, surveillance video showed a group using a pipe to break a storefront window at Sport Town and stealing merchandise. That happened a half hour after a group of juveniles assaulted a man in front of the Satellite Diner.
Overall, violent crimes and property crimes are down since last September, according to statistics for downtown Spokane.
