LEAVENWORTH — The wildfire burning near Leavenworth was 50 percent contained on Saturday afternoon.

Fire officials said good progress was being made fighting the Eagle Fire, which had burned about 2 square miles in steep terrain.

About 810 firefighters were assigned to the fire as of Saturday afternoon.

The Eagle Fire began on National Forest lands on Monday and grew quickly.

Although there is still some smoke in the area, all businesses and visitor facilities are open in the Leavenworth area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Saturday, 65 residences or structures along Eagle Creek Road were under Level 2 evacuation, which means people who live there were to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice because of the possibility the fire would reach the area.
