Wash. puppy rescued from road reunited with family

A Spokane County sheriff's deputy who took home a young puppy he found alone on a road has said goodbye to his new friend after learning a pet sitter was trying to locate the lost pup.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. —

A Spokane County sheriff's deputy who took home a young puppy he found alone on a road has said goodbye to his new friend after learning a pet sitter was trying to locate the lost pup.

Deputy Marc Melville rescued the pup early Monday after responding to a report that a man appeared to be abandoning puppies at an intersection. Melville found just one puppy. On Tuesday, he learned an ad had been posted regarding two lost puppies.

The woman who posted the ad told him she had been watching a family of dogs for a friend but found two of them missing.

When Melville brought the pup over, he immediately ran to the mother dog.

The woman said she didn't know anyone matching the description of the reported dog dumper.

Melville left the 7-week-old pup with his family after deciding the dogs were well cared for and that the puppy was indeed back with his mother.
