SPOKANE, Wash. —

Investigators are trying to determine what caused a car to explode in Spokane, injuring a man and his 3-year-old daughter.

KXLY reports ( http://bit.ly/14cVHUE) they just got into the car Sunday afternoon and had driven a few blocks in the Garland District when the car exploded.

Witnesses say the blast was loud and powerful, throwing car parts over the street. Some even landed on the roof of a nearby apartment complex.

The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. The girl is in serious condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
