LAKEVIEW, Ore. —

Oregon state police say they found about eight pounds of marijuana inside two festively wrapped birthday gift boxes during a southern Oregon traffic stop for a speeding violation.

The discovery came after a trooper stopped a Ford van with Minnesota plates that was northbound on Highway 395 north of Lakeview. Also found in the van Monday evening was an ice cooler with about 10 ounces of frozen hash oil.

Police estimated the value of the seized marijuana at $20,000.

The two young Sonoma, Calif., residents in the van were cited for unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance, and released.
