MOSES LAKE, Wash. —

A Moses Lake school is closed Friday due to an outbreak of a stomach flu virus that has sickened nearly a quarter of the students at Longview Elementary.

The Grant County Health District wants sick students and staff to stay home at least 48 hours after the nausea and diarrhea stop. The school district will be disinfecting surfaces at the school.

KREM reports ( http://bit.ly/12lh6rA) the highly infectious virus is spread by eating contaminated foods or touching contaminated people or surfaces.

The health district says the illness can be prevented by washing hands after using the toilet and before eating. Ill people should not prepare food.
