CENTRALIA, Wash. —

Surgery was scheduled this week for a Centralia man who suffered severe eye damage when he was hit by an errant golf ball.

Friends of 75-year-old Charles Downie told The Chronicle (http://bit.ly/YmDYtA) he was hit at close range Friday at Riverside Golf Course.

Fire department medics initially responded and he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
