VANCOUVER, Wash. —

The Skamania Lodge at Stevenson is opening a zip line ride next week that gives visitors a thrilling two-hour tour through a canopy of Douglas fir trees.

Reporters were given a preview of the seven "zips" that range from 100 to 900 feet long and descend toward the Columbia River.

The Columbian reports ( http://bit.ly/10duOJP) it's the only operating zip line in southwest Washington.

In 2008 a Washougal man briefly opened a zip line on his farm in the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area without obtaining permits. A legal battle is ongoing.
