MEDFORD, Ore. —

A Seattle man has been released from an Oregon jail and his charges reduced despite initial reports he allegedly let his 6-year-old daughter eat methamphetamine.

The Mail Tribune reports the 28-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday on charges of methamphetamine possession, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless endangering and endangering the welfare of a minor.

A Jackson County sheriff's deputy stopped the father Monday after callers said he was displaying suspicious behavior in an Ashland parking lot.

According to the deputy, a girl in the car said had had eaten what looked like a "sort of gray" rock from a bag that contained meth.

But sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson says the girl did not show signs of meth intoxication.

The child was placed in foster care after a medical evaluation.
