TACOMA, Wash. —

Tacoma police and Washington state troopers say a man trying to avoid officers after a hit-and-run crash drove off a city street, down an embankment and landed on Interstate 5. They say no one was hurt.

Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says it all happened about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

She says the driver is in custody and was taken to a hospital to be checked but didn't appear to be injured.

The News Tribune reports ( http://is.gd/ej2pLv) no one was hurt on I-5 or in the hit-and-run.

Cool says it appears the man lost control of the car, which lost a rear wheel in the initial crash.

Two freeway lanes were blocked temporarily.
