VANCOUVER, Wash. —

A Vancouver, Wash., man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for stealing an English bulldog puppy at gunpoint from an Oregon couple last October at a mall near Portland.

The Columbian reports that 23-year-old Jajuane Etheridge pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property. He was sentenced Monday.

Etheridge was prosecuted first in Clark County, Wash., because he took the 10-week-old puppy to his home, where he was arrested Oct. 21 after a three-hour standoff with a SWAT team. Police found the puppy named Harpo unharmed in a suitcase.

The Oregonian reports that Etheridge next will be brought to Clackamas County, Ore., to face robbery charges.

An Oregon City couple say they drove to the mall on Oct. 19 to meet a man who responded to their Craigslist ad for puppies. They say the man pulled a gun, grabbed Harpo and ran off. They managed to hang onto a second puppy.
