EVERETT, Wash. —

An Everett-based Navy ship, the destroyer USS Momsen, is deploying Monday afternoon to the western Pacific.

Naval Station Everett Public Affairs Officer Kristin Ching says the Momsen is deploying on its own and not as part of a carrier task force.

The 505-foot Momsen carries a crew of 276. The Navy says it is scheduled to participate in exercises with southeastern Asian countries.

Ching also says the carrier Nimitz that left Everett at the end of March picked up its air wing in Southern California and departed San Diego on Friday for a deployment in the western Pacific.
