PORTLAND, Ore. —

Following the lead of the Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard says it won't send ships this year to the Portland Rose Festival or Seattle's Seafair, blaming the automatic federal budget cuts.

The Coast Guard said Thursday it would continue to have set up safety zones and do maritime enforcement for the events.

The Navy made a similar announcement earlier this month, and the Blue Angels cancelled performances at Seafair and the air show at Hillsboro, Ore.
