SEATTLE —

Two drivers were injured in a wrong-way crash about 5:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 520 in Seattle near the University of Washington.

Washington State Patrol Sgt. John Sager says a man in an SUV was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when he hit a car driven by a woman head-on.

The woman in her 50s had to be cut out of her car and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

The man in his 20s was taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

Sager says he's under arrest for investigation of vehicular assault. He's believed to have been drinking.

Sager says he apparently made a U-turn on the highway.

The crash blocked rush hour traffic. The patrol planned to reopen the highway by 8 a.m.
