ANCHORAGE, Alaska —

An Anchorage couple has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for the theft of thousands of dollars from their adopted son's trust fund.

Sixty-two-year-old Edward Drones and 57-year-old Lori-Wiley-Drones were sentenced Wednesday.

The Anchorage Daily News (http://is.gd/jrm82V ) says the couple pleaded guilty in January to wire fraud and filing a false tax return.

The state took the boy away from his abusive father and put the child into foster care with the couple in 1996, when the boy was 5 or 6 years old.

They adopted him and sued the state in 2005 for "failure to protect" the boy when he lived with his father.

Prosecutors say the state paid the boy about $824,000, which was put into a trust fund, which the couple drained, leaving $15.05.
