A Bellevue police SWAT team looking for robbery suspects shot and killed a man early Friday outside a south Seattle house as it served a search warrant, police said.
The suspect was in a car when he was shot at about 5 a.m. by a Bellevue officer, Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate said.
He died at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt said.
No officers were injured.
A Seattle SWAT team took over and later entered the house, which is near 42nd Avenue South and South Hudson Street, in the Columbia City neighborhood.
They did not find a second suspect. However they had contact outside with the dead man's brother who was armed, Witt said. The brother was cleared as a suspect and was legally carrying the firearm, so he was allowed to leave with the gun.
Police previously said they were looking for two burglary suspects and that the second one had been arrested in the house.
Details of the shooting are not yet available. Seattle police are investigating, Witt said.
The dead man was a suspect in several robberies in Bellevue and a couple in Seattle, Witt said, but she didn't have details.
The Bellevue SWAT team led the search warrant operation at the house with Seattle police detectives standing by to question the suspects. It's common for officers to work in other jurisdictions, Iafrate said.
