A Bellevue police SWAT team looking for two suspects in a string of burglaries shot and killed one of them early Friday as officers surrounded a home in south Seattle to serve a search warrant, police said.

The man died at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt said.

The Seattle SWAT team replaced the Bellevue team after dawn to search the home. When they went inside, they found and arrested the second suspect, police said.

The men were wanted in a series of burglaries in Seattle and Bellevue, Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate said.

The Bellevue SWAT team was leading the operation at about 5 a.m., with Seattle police detectives standing by to question the suspects. It's common for officers to work in other jurisdictions, Iafrate said.

The shot was fired as the SWAT team approached the house, which is near 42nd Avenue South and South Hudson Street, in the Columbia City neighborhood.

Details of the shooting are uncertain, but Iafrate said the man who was shot was in a car.

No officers were injured.

The shooting will be investigated by Seattle police, Witt said.
