SPOKANE, Wash. —

A man accused of having sex with a student when he was a teacher at Spokane's Shadle Park High School pleaded not guilty Wednesday to sexual misconduct charges.

Police say Ryan M. Murphy used his position as an English teacher to coax a girl into a relationship beginning in 2009 when she was 15.

The Spokesman-Review reports ( http://bit.ly/Y1bT92) another student complained to school officials in February 2012 about the relationship. Murphy was placed on leave and resigned in August.
