OLYMPIA, Wash. —

A Washington state Senate committee has heard testimony on a bill to ban a pair of carcinogenic flame retardants from children's products by 2015.

The measure considered Tuesday by the Energy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee to ban TCEP and chlorinated Tris, or TDCPP, was scaled back from the version passed by the Democratic-controlled House earlier this month.

Not covered under the Senate version of the toxics ban are sofas and other household products. A requirement that chemicals not be replaced with other potentially dangerous flame retardants also was struck from the Senate bill.
