TACOMA, Wash. —

The Pierce County sheriff's office says a kayaker whose boat flipped Monday night near McNeil Island died early Tuesday in a hospital.

Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer tells The News Tribune reports ( http://bit.ly/11bqcqJ) the 29-year-old man was from Lakebay.

The kayak with two men aboard overturned between McNeil Island and the Key Peninsula. Both were wearing life vests. One made ashore and went to a home to call for help.

Searchers found the other kayaker about an hour later. He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor in grave condition.
