Suited to party on St. Paddy’s Day
Alan Berner / The Seattle Times
William Patrick Kiley, right, dressed as St. Patrick, checks out Mason Dougherty, 9, a punk leprechaun wearing a bright-green synthetic mohawk purchased online by a family member. Kiley was resting at a Fourth Avenue bus stop before the start of Saturday’s annual St. Paddy’s Day parade to Westlake Park. He has marched near the front of the parade for decades. Dougherty walked with the Irish Heritage Club.

An estimated 17,000 runners, known for zany costumes, will take to the streets Sunday for the St. Patrick’s Day Dash to benefit Northwest children’s charities. The main race route loops from Seattle Center, up Highway 99 to the Aurora Avenue Bridge, and then back. Races start at 8 and 9 a.m., so watch for road closures in the area.
