TACOMA, Wash. —

The Pierce County medical examiner's office says a woman found dead in a Tacoma, Wash., motel was asphyxiated.

A sheriff's spokesman says Sara Barrett's husband, Tony Barrett, called a Seattle TV newsroom on Wednesday night to say he had killed his wife and asked the station to post that message on Facebook.

He was arrested early Thursday and his wife's body was found a few hours later. The News Tribune (http://is.gd/wQFbQm) reports he remained hospitalized Friday for treatment of police dog bites suffered in a fight with law enforcement officers at the end of a high-speed chase.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says he plans to charge Barrett with first-degree murder. It was not known whether Barrett had a lawyer.

Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said investigators believe Sara Barrett was killed in the motel room after being abducted from outside her workplace.
