EVERETT, Wash. —

A Marysville man who has served more than four years behind bars for shooting his 6-year-old daughter to death may be released soon.

A Snohomish County jury found Richard Peters guilty Tuesday of second-degree manslaughter.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/15MBm7P) he was acquitted of first-degree manslaughter because jurors weren't convinced he acted recklessly in November 2008 when he asked his daughter Stormy to bring him his handgun.

Peters says it fired accidentally.

This was his second trial. He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in 2009 and sentenced to more than 13 years in prison but won a new trial on appeal.

The sentence for second-degree manslaughter is five years, which is close to what he's already served.
