The Senate has unanimously approved a measure to create a stalking protection order.
The measure passed Tuesday was driven by the 2010 shooting death of an elementary school teacher in Tacoma, Jennifer Paulson. Paulson was killed by a man who was under an anti-harassment order to stay away from her.
The bill creates a new petition for a stalking protection order for any person who does not qualify for a domestic violence protection order. A violation of a stalking protection or no-contact order would be considered a gross misdemeanor. The House passed a similar measure on Monday.
