Police in the small Oregon community of St. Helens say a young Washington woman and a juvenile sprayed tear gas in a grocery store last week, prompting the evacuation of about 100 people.

Authorities say 31 shoppers reported having trouble breathing last Wednesday and one man was taken to a hospital after the incident at a Safeway store.

St. Helens Police Chief Steven Salle said 18-year-old Elisha Nichols of Rainier, Wash., and the juvenile were arrested Monday. Nichols was arrested for investigation of counts including assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and unlawful use of Mace. She was booked into the Columbia County Jail with bail set at $400,000.

The juvenile's case was referred to juvenile prosecutors.

St. Helens is north of Portland.
