SPOKANE, Wash. —

The Spokane County prosecutor has cleared two sheriff's deputies who shot a man to death last September in Spokane Valley.

The prosecutor's office says Deputies Aaron Childress and Eric Werner believed 47-year-old Edward S. Gover was armed with a knife when he charged at them. Both officers fired and Gover died at the scene.

The officers were investigating a report that he had stabbed his girlfriend and held her captive.

The Spokesman-Review reports (http://is.gd/Fk0wDb) the suspicious object in Gover's hand turned out to be a key fob.
