Police are looking for a masked man who shot as woman in the chest Thursday morning as she answered a knock on her apartment door.

The Bellingham Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/YPmSxX) the woman in her mid-20s was able to call police herself. She was taken to St. Joseph hospital, condition unknown.

Officers searched the neighborhood with a dog and helicopter. They interviewed the woman's male roommate and said he is not a suspect.

Police also were talking to a man described as a person of interest.
