OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The Washington state Senate is set to take up a number of K-12 education reform bills, a spokesman for the Republican-dominated majority said.

Among the bills expected to be debated on the floor Wednesday are one targeting third-graders' reading ability and another to give principals more say in whether a teacher can be placed in his or her school. A third bill would set up an A through F grade scale for a handful of schools as a pilot program.
