A National Park Service report on visitors and the money they spend says 7 million people visited national parks in Washington in 2011 and spent $286 million.

The report says spending on lodging, meals, gasoline and other expenses supported more than 4,100 jobs.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/Y8OH47) the Park Service report released last month counted nearly 3 million visitors to Olympic National Park in 2011. Mount Rainier National Park was second with more than 1 million visitors.

Other national parks in the state are North Cascades National Park, San Juan Islands National Historical Park and Lewis and Clark National Historical Park.

Nationally, parks had 279 million visitors who spent $13 billion within 60 miles of the parks.
