TACOMA, Wash. —

After a one-year hiatus, Mead made sure that the 4A state girls basketball championship went back to Spokane on Saturday night.

The Panthers joined Lewis & Clark as a recent state champion from Spokane, giving the city five titles in a span of eight years after rolling to a 58-42 win over Arlington at the Tacoma Dome. Mead (25-1) won its 19th consecutive game and its first state title since 1996.

Sue Winger led Mead with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashlyn Lewey added 14 points for the Panthers.

The Panthers were in cruise control for most of the game, jumping out to an 8-2 lead before closing out the first half on a 9-0 run to lead 29-15 at the break.

Arlington finally made a run early in the fourth quarter, using a 10-2 spurt to get within single digits for the first time in the second half. Taylor Grahm's three-pointer cut Mead's lead to 48-39 with six minutes left, but the Eagles (22-5) would get no closer than that.

Grahm, with 12 points, was the lone Arlington player in double figures.

Mead was making its second championship game appearance in four years, having lost to Auburn-Riverside in the 2010 title game. The Panthers were hardly tested in this year's tournament, having fallen behind 2-0 in a first-round game with Skyline and never trailing again in three consecutive wins.
