Sunnyside Christian tops Pomeroy 51-40

SPOKANE, Wash. —

Alex Brouwer scored 14 points as Sunnyside Christian beat Pomeroy 51-40 on Friday to advance to the Class 1B boys state championship game.

Brant Bosma added 11 points for the Knights (26-2), who will play either LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus or Neah Bay in the title game. Tanner Fieder had 11 points and Bryan McGreevy 10 for the Pirates (20-7), who will play for third place.

Sunnyside Christian led from the start, grabbing a 10-2 lead on a pair of foul shots by Drew Scheenstra. The lead grew to 30-15 on a basket by Scheenstra early in the third quarter.

Pomeroy whittled it down to 46-39 after a 3-pointer by Riley Bott with 2 minutes left, but Sunnyside Christian pulled away at the foul line.
