Rainier Beach tops rival Franklin 73-59

TACOMA, Wash. —

Rainier Beach made it a clean sweep of rival Franklin on Friday night, beating the Quakers 73-59 to advance to the championship game of the 3A state tournament.

Will Dorsey came off the bench to score 21 points for the Vikings, while Rainier Beach's frontline had 19 offensive rebounds and five blocked shots. It marked the fourth time this season that Rainier Beach beat Franklin.

The Quakers (18-9) gave Rainier Beach a scare in the first half, using a 10-0 run to take an early led and was up 22-21 at the half. But Rainier Beach (24-4) pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Franklin 21-4 while building up a 54-37 lead early in the final period.

The defending 3A champion Vikings earned their second consecutive trip to the state finals and their eighth since 1998.

Dorsey, who made 11 of 13 free throws, was the only Rainier Beach player in double figures.

Arell Hennings had 24 points and four assists for Franklin.
