YAKIMA, Wash. —

About 300 people attended the Thursday night public forum in Yakima on possible regulations on the legal sale of recreational marijuana in Washington.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://bit.ly/WrJ5YS) public safety was a concern for both supporters and opponents of the drug. Several speakers asked that sales be kept away from schools. Others said advertising should be controlled.

The meeting was the seventh the state Liquor Control Board has held since voters approved Initiative 502 in November. The public comments will be considered in drafting rules for licensing marijuana producers, processors and retailers.

The final forum will be March 7 in Bremerton.

Marijuana sales could start in December.
