Cleveland overcomes slow start to beat University

TACOMA, Wash. —

Trailing by as many as eight points in the first half, Cleveland overcame a slow start and pulled away late for a 60-50 win over University on Thursday in the Class 3A quarterfinals at the Tacoma Dome.

Makala Roper scored 10 of her game-high 22 points in the first half to spark the Eagles (25-2), who picked up their 24th consecutive victory.

Cleveland, which is looking for its second title in four years, will play in the semifinals Friday, while University (14-11) will play in a consolation.

Myzhanique Ladd and Donniesha Webber scored 12 points apiece for the Eagles, while Jayde Christopher added six assists. University had four players score at least seven points. Senior Kayleigh Valley was the Titans' leading scorer with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.
