Defending champ Lynden beats West Valley 60-42

John Shine scored a game-high 18 points to lead three Lynden players in double figures as the defending champion Lions ran away from West Valley (Yakima) 60-42 on Thursday in the Class 2A boys state quarterfinals.

YAKIMA, Wash. —

John Shine scored a game-high 18 points to lead three Lynden players in double figures as the defending champion Lions ran away from West Valley (Yakima) 60-42 on Thursday in the Class 2A boys state quarterfinals.

Dak Shagren chipped in 13 points and Jaremy Martin 12 for the Lions, who took a 12-point lead late in the first quarter and never let the Rams get closer than seven points the rest of the game. Shine also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for Lynden (24-1).

Austin Strock led WV (21-3) with 13 points.
