Sunnyside Christian knocks off St. John-Endicott

Annie Brouwer scored 17 points as Sunnyside Christian beat St. John-Endicott 52-37 on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Class 1B girls state tournament.

SPOKANE, Wash. —

Annie Brouwer scored 17 points as Sunnyside Christian beat St. John-Endicott 52-37 on Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Class 1B girls state tournament.

Kara Den Hoed added 11 points and Stormee Van Belle had 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Knights (24-0). Emily Jones had nine points for the Eagles (18-6), who will play in a loser-out game.

Sunnyside Christian scored the game's first seven points and led 18-3 late in the first quarter. St. John-Endicott managed to pull within 24-13 when Jones banked in a 3-pointer from the wing midway through the second quarter, but the Knights responded with a 21-4 run. St. John-Endicott never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.

St. John-Endicott hit just 1 of 14 from 3-point range.
