ENUMCLAW, Wash. —

Two snowmobilers who were stranded in whiteout conditions in the Cascades east of Enumclaw have been rescued by a King County search and rescue team.

Deputy William Akers says rescuers reached the couple late Monday night and brought them down to a snow park near Greenwater before dawn Tuesday. Akers says the two are unhurt and free to go home.

About 40 rescuers took part in the overnight search.

The 44-year-old man and 41-year-old woman set out Sunday on a snowmobiling trip north of Mount Rainier and became trapped in heavy snow. They spent the night in a snow cave. The man was able to walk out far enough Monday morning to get a cell phone signal and contact his daughter. She gave his GPS coordinates to the sheriff's office.
