TACOMA, Wash. —

A Coast Guard inspector is checking a barge in Tacoma's Commencement Bay Monday to make sure it can be moved without developing another leak.

If a repair is holding, Coast Guard spokesman Nathan Littlejohn says, the barge will be moved to the Schnitzer Steel recycling operation about a half-mile away to unload the barge's load of crushed cars.

Several of the scrap car hulks fell into the bay Sunday after the barge developed a leak and started listing. They caused a slight sheen of oil on the water.

Divers with Global Salvage and Diving repaired a cracked hull and stopped the leak.
